Winterland: Most Iconic Music Venues of the 20th Century
Winterland was one of the most iconic music venues of the 20th century, the lesser known brother/sister venue of The Fillmore of the Bay Area cemented Bill Graham’s legend. Showcased amongst hundreds of shows were Pink Floyd, Muddy Waters, The Ramones, Bruce Springsteen, Chuck berry, the kinks, neil young, The Rolling Stones and many others in this intimate setting. The first show was the 23rd of September 1966, and the last taking place early 1979. Perhaps the most iconic were the Jimi Hendrix shows and in this brief flash of brilliant life we are left with this hazy memory of pure genius. It was the psychedelic experience that bonded most of these icons together as the music that still plays on in every corner of the world today. This venue rose in prominence much like the small intimate growers of cannabis in this region which turned Northern California into the epicenter of a cultural revolution.
